We learned about Carter G. Woodson creator of Black History Month originally Negro Week (1926). Carter choose February because Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas birthdays - They both influenced the Emancipation of Slaves. In 1863 Abraham passed the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing slaves.
